Jennifer Lawrence made some poor choices, in my opinion, as to the roles she took.
She was universally considered the next big thing after her terrific turns in Battle Royale knock-off The Hunger Games and the splendid Silver Linings Playbook, but her career since then has included some real stinkers.
Whether it’s Darren Aronofsky’s bizarre arthouse confuse-a-thon Mother!, sexpionage snooze fest Red Sparrow, or great idea let down by ludicrous writing Passengers, she seems to have starred in one flop after another, which is a real shame as she can clearly act and has great screen presence, and comes across as very likeable. Even the last X-Men movie she was in was absolutely dreadful.
I’m not sure what’s happened here, if it’s just her (probably wisely) making as much money as she can while the offers are coming in, or that she’s just picking poor scripts, who knows, but I’m not convinced of the insinuation in the question, that she’s gotten where she is by doing things to the odious Harvey Weinstein.
That said, the pictures stolen from her phone and widely leaked across the Internet, colloquially known as The Fappening, didn’t seem to do her popularity any harm, I must admit.
