Who has been the most famous babysitter of all time, and why?

Tsahi Shemesh

One of my favorite films of all time has got to be Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. In it, there is a man named Eli Wallach who plays Tuco, aka, the Ugly. Wallach was a fine actor, a Jewish fellow who made his name playing Mexican outlaws in Spaghetti westerns and did so marvelously.

He wasn’t a babysitter, Mr. Wallach. But he was a father. His wife, Anne Jackson, and him had three kids. And when you’re a pair of actors and often away to shoot a scene, you need a babysitter. So Eli and Anne asked a nice girl in their neighborhood, Norma Jeane Mortenson, to babysit for them. She did so very regularly.

And Norma Jeane, as it just so happens, later changed her name. And became none other than… Marilyn Monroe. Which, I dare say, made her one of the world’s most famous babysitters.

Not bad, Tuco! Not bad at all. You and Blondie may not have gotten along on the silver screen, but there surely was a blondie in real life you and your family got along with fabulously!
