In 2019, a 15-year-old boy from Florida named Khyler Edman died while trying to protect his little sister from a burglar.

There had been several reports of a suspicious person in the neighborhood, and the authorities were looking into it. Just before they arrived, a 911 call came in about a possible burglar who was bleeding.

The man, 27-year-old Clayton Cole, tried to run away, but the police were able to catch him and arrest him.

As the officers checked the neighborhood to see if any homes had been broken into, they found two children alone in a house—Khyler and his younger sister. Authorities believe Khyler was trying to protect their home and his sister when he was attacked.

Khyler’s parents said, “He was the kind of kid you would want to be your son.”

After Khyler passed away, a GoFundMe page was set up to help pay for his funeral costs. The family asked for $25,000, but over $76,000 was raised to support them.

This was an incredibly brave act, and I have so much respect for Khyler for doing something that many people wouldn’t have the courage to do. A teenager who was willing to give his life to protect his sister—now that’s true bravery!
