Cycling is the slow death of the planet.

A banker made economists think by saying:

“A cyclist is a disaster for the country’s economy: they don’t buy cars and don’t borrow money to buy one. They don’t pay for insurance policies. They don’t buy fuel, don’t pay for car maintenance, and no repairs are necessary. They don’t use paid parking. They don’t cause major accidents. There’s no need for multi-lane highways.”

He does not become obese.

Healthy people are neither needed nor useful to the economy. They don’t buy medicine. They don’t go to the hospital or the doctor.

They add nothing to the country’s GDP.

“On the contrary, each new McDonald’s store creates at least 30 jobs – in fact, 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 dietitians and nutritionists – obviously as well as the people who work in the store itself.”

Choosing wisely: a bike or a McDonald’s? That’s something to think about.

PS: Walking is even worse. Pedestrians don’t even buy bicycles!
