A couple of years ago, an older woman visited my girlfriend’s clinic for “an impediment”. When the woman undressed, my girlfriend couldn’t believe her eyes…
The patient had a uterine prolapse, which means the uterus was protruding from the body through the vagina. This is not uncommon at all.
What was unusual was the fact that the uterus was shrivelled and completely dry, and its surface showed a series of erosions – this was very strange indeed.
“Ma’am, may I ask when this happened?”
The old woman did not dare to answer, feeling deeply ashamed for some reason.
“About… about four years ago, Doctor.”
My girlfriend thought she had missed something: “Are you saying she lived for four years with her uterus hanging outside of her body?”
The answer was yes.
When it happened, the patient was too ashamed to go to the doctor and “had to take care of her sick husband anyway.”
For four whole years, this elderly woman had slept with her uterus hanging outside of her body, had gone to the bathroom with this thing dangling from below, and had sat on it every time she sat down.
